Nous venons d’apprendre par des messages des compagnons du Pakistan et par la section en Australie de l’AIT (ASF), que la police de la région du Sindh, au Pakistan, vient d’arrêter 600 libres-penseurs et ouvriers, qui manifestaient contre l’extrémisme religieux islamiste. Cette manifestation, qui était pourtant légale, visait à protester contre l’assassinat par des fanatiques islamistes d’un docteur à Karachi accusé de blasphème.
Parmi les personnes arrêtées se trouvent nos compagnes et compagnons de la Workers Solidarity Federation (WSF), la section au Pakistan de l’Association Internationale des Travailleurs : William Sadiq, vétéran du mouvement anarchiste du Pakistan, Naasir Mansoor, l’activiste féministe Sindhu Nawaz Ghanghro, Jami Chandio et sa fille, madame Zahra Khan.

La WSF a attiré la colère des « islamistes zombies » pour ses protestations contre le meurtre de Mahsa Amini par la police religieuse iranienne en 2022 (https://cnt-ait.info/2022/10/08/mahsa-wsf-ait) et pour ses manifestations publiques à Karachi en faveur des droits des transgenres l’année dernière (https://cnt-ait.info/2023/01/28/pakistan-transgenres).
Le gouvernement du Parti populaire de la province du Sindh a maintenant ordonné à la police de Karachi de réprimer les manifestations contre les extrémistes religieux meurtriers.
La lutte contre le fanatisme religieux ne connait pas de frontière.

L’AIT a été informée de l’arrestation des camarades William, Sindhu, Zahra, Nasri et Jami (ainsi que sa fille) de la Fédération de solidarité des travailleurs au Pakistan. Ils faisaient partie des dizaines de manifestants arrêtés lors de l’émeute policière contre une manifestation à Karachi le 13 octobre. Nous exigeons leur libération immédiate.
La manifestation a été déclenchée par le meurtre du Dr Shahnawaz, accusé de « blasphème » en raison de ses publications sur les réseaux sociaux. Shahnawaz a été abattu le mois dernier par la police. À la suite d’une enquête sur le meurtre, le ministre de l’Intérieur du Sindh a annoncé que la police avait « organisé l’affrontement » qui a conduit à la fusillade.
Le gouvernement avait tenté d’interdire la manifestation d’hier. La manifestation, qui visait également à dénoncer l’extrémisme religieux, a réuni des syndicats, des militants des droits de l’homme et des féministes. La police a attaqué les manifestants devant le Karachi Press Club (KPC) et dans d’autres lieux. Le président du Karchi Press Club, Sarbazi, a affirmé que la tentative d’interdiction de manifester ne s’appliquait pas au KPC, car il s’agit d’une zone de libre expression libre dans l’esprit du « free speach corrner » de Hyde Park », où aucune interdiction de manifester n’est en vigueur. L’inspecteur de police a apparemment confirmé qu’aucune interdiction de manifester ne devrait être appliquée dans ce lieu.
Pendant ce temps, des délégations gouvernementale étrangères se trouvent dans la capitale pour le sommet de l’Organisation de coopération de Shanghai, .L’émeute policière pourrait être due à une volonté d’écraser les manifestations pendant le sommet.
L’AIT condamne les actions du gouvernement, de la police et des extrémistes religieux impliqués dans les événements. Nous exigeons la libération immédiate des prisonniers et la fin de la répression policière et des violations des droits de l’homme !

We have just learned through messages from the companions of Pakistan and from the AIT-IWA’s Australian (ASF), that the police in the Sindh region of Pakistan have arrested 600 free-thinkers and workers, who were demonstrating against Islamic religious extremism. This demonstration, which was nevertheless legal, was aimed at protesting the assassination by Islamist fanatics of a doctor in Karachi accused of blasphemy.
Among those arrested are our comrades from the Workers Solidarity Federation (WSF), the Pakistan section of the International Workingmen’s Association: William SADIQ, veteran of the Pakistan anarchist movement, Naasir Mansoor, Jami Chandio, feminist activist Sindhu Nawaz Ghanghro, Ms. Zahra Khan.
WSF Karachi has attracted the ire of ‘zombie Islamists’ for their protests against the murder of Mahsa Amini by the Iranian religious police in 2022 (https://cnt-ait.info/2022/10/08/mahsa-wsf-ait) and for its public demonstrations in Karachi in support of transgender rights last year (https://cnt-ait.info/2023/01/28/pakistan-transgender).
Now the Peoples Party government of Sindh province have ordered the Karachi Police to suppress the protests against the murderous religious extremists.
The fight against religious fanaticism knows no boundaries.

The IWA has been informed of the arrests of comrades William, Sindhu, Zahra, Nasri and Jami (along with her daughter) from Workers’ Solidarity Federation in Pakistan. They were among the scores of protestors arrested during the police riot against a protest in Karachi on October 13. We are demanding their immediate release.
The demonstration was sparked by the murder of Dr Shahnawaz, who was accused of „blasphemy” because of his posts on social media. Shahnawaz was shot dead last month by police. Following an inquiry into the killing, the Sindh Home Minister announced that the police had “staged the encounter” which led to the shooting.
The government had attempted to ban yesterday’s protest. The protest, which also was against religious extremism was attended by trade unions, human rights activists and feminists. Police attacked protestors outside the Karachi Press Club and at other locations.
The Karchi Press Club President Sarbazi claimed that the attempted protest ban did not apply to the KPC as it has been declared a “Hyde Park” venue, where there was no ban on protests. The Inspector of Police apparently has confirmed that there should be no ban on protests there.
In the meanwhile foreign delegations are in the capital for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit. The police riot may have been due to a desire to squash protests during the Summit.
The IWA condemns the actions of the government, police and religious extremists involved in the events. We demand the immediate release of the prisoners and an end to police repression and the violation of human rights!
